The Conscious Side of Fashion: The Eco Chic Fashion Show

The Eco Chic Fashion Show, organized by Simply Green Unique Events Inc., is a local event exhibiting Eco-friendly Canadian designers and will be raising awareness of the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network on behalf of the Canadian Blood Services. The event will be held on Sunday October 6, 2013 at the Markham Hilton Conference Centre (8500 Warden Ave) from 11 am to 6 pm.
Eco Chic is meant to be a platform for local designers to introduce their work and for industry professionals and business owners to network and exchange ideas. It purposes to encourage consumers to shop local and for them to switch to eco-friendly products and services. In planning the event, Simple Green has made the conscious effort to reuse/reduce /recycle products and to minimize paper waste through electronic communication and online marketing. At the actually event there will be no bottled water served and attendees have been encouraged to carpool.
Some of the “green” local businesses confirmed to attend are Arbonne, It Works, Stella and Dot, Swiss Clinic, and Hana laser Clinic, and confirmed media sponsors are Radio Roya, Persian Tribune, Pasargad & Iran Zameen TV (Rogers OMNI.2), and Negarestan Journal of Arts and Social Life; new attendees and sponsors are being confirmed daily. There will also be live music performed by local bands and surprise celebrities in attendance.

Highlighted designers are 3D ART DESIGN STUDIO, YOYO STREETWEAR, NAZBASH, and HASTI. Elina Ten (3D Art Design Studio) has solo and joint exhibitions in Canada and overseas; her techniques and mediums include Batik, silk painting, decoupage, multi medium, oil, acrylic, barelief, glass painting, 3D modelling, nuno and needle felting, fibre art, knitting, floral design and many more. YOYO Streetwear is a young, conscious, and creative clothing company inspired from lifestyles, music, art, and sub cultures. Nazanin Bashi (NAZBASH) is inspired by traditional Persian art, design, and techniques, and Hasti Homayoun (HASTI) combines elements from nature, art, and culture with modern and contemporary style, and creates wearable art pieces full of textures, forms, and colors through a range of handmade techniques.
NAZBASH and HASTI recently collaborated for Toronto Arts and Fashion Week 2013 with their conceptual design line “Food and Fashion.” They were selected by BlogTO as one of the top 10 looks of FAT 2013 and were featured in NOW Magazine. This collection was inspired by Persian foods; the fabric, colors, and lines give impression to a series of dishes. These designs are all about colors, textures, abstract forms and minimal cuts, with a combination of handcrafted wearable art garments and accessories made of natural fabrics, including silk and linen, and incorporated hand painting on re-used fabrics with natural paints.
In this increasingly eco-friendly cultural climate, it is inspiring to see local designers on the right side of fashion as well as environmental concerns and sustainability. Sure to be a “talked-about” occasion, this is one event that designers, industry, media, and trendy consumers alike won’t want to miss.
