Our environment can play a great role in our well-being, mood, and overall mental health which is why the way we décor our home is important. Our home is a safe place to recharge and refocus when the outside world seems hectic. Now more than ever we want to make sure that our home décor and lifestyle have a positive impact on our well-being.

Here are some elements to consider that can improve your home interior design to positively affect your well-being.

Choose a minimalistic design

Minimalist design focus on removing unnecessary items to create a less cluttered space and incorporate natural material. Each item needs to be well organized, have a clear purpose, and be easily accessible.

Lighting is the key

The amount of light in a room plays a role on how we perceive it. The brighter the room, the cleaner and spacious it will feel. Access to natural lighting is also important because it can affect our body, mood, energy, and circadian rhythm.

With a room that prioritizes access to natural lighting, we can take advantage of all the benefits lights offer and if you can not put windows in the room, you can always switch to artificial lighting that mimics natural light as a second option.

Choose the right color

Different color brings us different emotions, it is recommended to only choose colors that remind us of good memory or that we associate with happiness.

When choosing the color, we also need to think about how we would like the room to feel because just like lighting colors also play a role on how a room can be perceived. A general rule is that light colors make the room brighter and spacious when darker colors will make the room more intimate and warmer.

Improve air quality

Now that we are spending more time indoors it is important to think about the ventilation system of our home and how the air is distributed as well as filtrated to ensure harmful viruses are eliminated.

Some good strategies to implement to avoid polluting the indoor air quality are avoiding smoking inside, limiting the use of combustion sources, installing an air purifier device, and opening windows when the condition outside permits.

Connect with nature

Whether is by adding a plant in your room or by highlighting natural views; incorporating outdoor elements inside is a good way to reconnect with nature and counterbalance the lack of natural elements in our lives, because spending time in nature has a great psychological benefit. It can reduce anxiety, depression symptoms, blood pressure, and stress hormones.
