I Love New York

Being from the a big metropolitan city like Toronto, the appeal to go to New York City can sometimes be dimmed compared to visiting the carribbean or traveling across the ocean to Europe. However, for anyone seeking an escape in a modern jungle, New York City is the place to be!

FW Luxe had the privilege to venture out on a girls trip to the big apple and take in all that it has to offer. Even though the city has endless neighbourhoods and a giant list of things to see, a conservative three days trip was ideal.

One of the charms of New York City is that while we were out exploring the town, we came across unexpected gems that we had not planned to see but experienced as the locals do. Time Square and all its glory, was just amazing in terms of the grandeur and magnitude of the advertisements and truly felt very cosmopolitan. However, the New York Public Library and St. Patrick's Cathedral is what really stole our hearts! The architecture preservation in a city of hustle and bustle was such a unique element we did not expect. Sure, we have seen these sites on TV shows but to walk into them and stare up at the intricate details of the high ceilings, the restoration and feel the satisfaction of knowing that you are standing in international land marks...for anyone who visits NYC, we highly recommend checking out these free sites! FYI- The Sex and the City movie featured the New York Public Library as the place Carrie Bradshaw nearly got married, so of course we had to see it!

While exiting the St. Patrick's cathedral and taking in all the gothic architecture and presence of religious enormity, we stumbled upon Saks & Company that featured a tribute to the recently deceased king of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld.... we miss you Karl!

Then a quick hop and stop at Serendipity.....all you romcom lovers, remember that movie? We did and just soaked in the fact that we were having a meal in the very spot love stories were made!

Being from another city that has a pretty cool subway system, we all were still quite suburban at heart- so enjoying the New York subway lines was uber cool. Guess what - we did not get lost even once! On our way to catch the Staten Island Ferry we came across another gorgeous building- The National Archives! A short ride on a complimentary ferry ride and there it was....Statue of Liberty! Wow!

The thing about New York City that we discovered was like any other city, movies do make it seem much more glamorous than it is but if you know what you want to experience and on what budget, you can customize your site seeing. This gang of girls head to the trendy area of Soho on our list next and really enjoyed people watching...hats, stylish tailored coats, designer shops and gourmet dining, this was where the hip crowd was meant to be found, and it was where luxury met attainable style. Dinner at Eately was divine and filled with jokes, laughter and girl fun! By the way, looking for affordable designer fashion- check out the block wide Century 21- major deals!

Pass through the Oculus that reminds us of the Twin Towers to reach the Century 21 store.

Weather as not ideal for Central Park or doing any outdoor activations however there was the grand stop that was on all our lists- The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Museum tip number one, if you love art, this is heaven- Degas, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Rodin, Manet, Da Vinci all under one roof....it was overwhelming but in a good way. Tip number two, a few hours let alone one day is not enough to cover this magnificent beast of a museum. It has something from every era, every region and every taste palette. The sculptures, the paintings and historical artifacts were just coming at us one after the other and it was hands down our favourite spot.

Thank you NYC for this dream experience filled with delicious food, fun excursions and an excuse to dress like we were true New Yorkers...well at least we thought so! Till next time.....
